Mani Janak an aspiring filmmaker who holds a strong commitment towards the visual media, has from the younger days onwards been leaded by his inherent ambitions and talents. He was born in Nidiyanga, a village in Sreekandapuram in Kannur district as the son of Mr. P. P. Narayanan, a retired railway employee and Mrs. Janaki. He began his career as an automobile engineer after possessing a diploma in automobile engineering from Thiruvanathapuram and soon quit the job due to his interest in visual media to work in the field of advertising. Later in 2006, getting a diploma in multimedia, Mani Janak stepped in to the world of visual media by making a documentary fiction named 'Nerarivinte Novarinjavar' (Those Who Came to Know the Pain of Truth).
Showed in several festivals, and once telecasted by Jeevan TV, 'Nerarivinte Novarinjavar' was about the problems of the traditional small-scale industry employees in the period of mechanization brought by Globalization. Later, Mani Janak did several short films including the noted 'Prathi', (The Accused), which showed in different film festivals and received good appreciations. 'Prathi' was about a poor girl who loses the chance for higher education, which in time is the sole property of rich people, and tangled with the clutches of a sex racket.
Mani Janak has also worked as the camp director for the camps, which were meant for giving training in script, camera, editing and direction for students who made the film Snehathine Sandesham, (The Message of Love), produced by Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Kannur.
He directed and did camera works for a documentary film titled 'Haritha Kudumbam – Harithasree', for Kudumbashree Mission, Kannur. Besides, Mani Janak has done some animation films and advertisement films. His forthcoming documentary fiction, 'Water: Unknown Mirage', now in its post production works, themes on the concept that the Third World War will be for the possession of water. His next project will be a short film portraying the case of a pregnant girl who was pressured to sell the foetus in its early stages of growth to a multi national face pack company. He also plans to make a video album featuring the charm of rain as the main backdrop. Mani Janak believes that the success of a film director is in his commitment and sincerity towards the subject of the film. Presently, Mani Janak also acts as the Chief Editor of an emerging news web portal, www.nattuvartha.com, under his own ownership, which is solely meant for the progression of underdeveloped villages.
